Power of Attorney:  Don't even think of doing this yourself   

If you are a resident of the state of Connecticut, you need to be aware of upcoming changes in the laws governing powers of attorney (POA), effective October 1, 2016.  

A POA is a legal document naming an agent to act on your behalf and it is a common planning tool.  A POA that survives someone's incapacity is called a "durable power of attorney."

Connecticut residents:  be aware that the official CT website for the new Connecticut Uniform Power of Attorney Act looks like this (see below).  Note the effective date of July 1, 2016.  That date is incorrect.
